It is a humbling experience to stand just meters from man’s distant cousins as they eat rest, play and bond with their young. Follow the mountain gorillas as they range freely in the bambo forest and discover their gorgeous natural habitat and the many species they share it with. Mgahinga is part of a larger ecosystem which includes two adjacent parks in Rwanda and Congo sitting high in the clounds, at the altitude of between 2,227m and 4127m. It was formed to protect the rare Mountain gorillas that inhabit its dense forests and it’s a habitant for the rare golden monkey. The park temperatures are cool owing to the mountainous nature with a home of 300 gorillas located in Virunga massif and the culture or traditional healing practices for local people covers the north slopes of the three northern Virunga Volcanoes (Muhavura, Gahinga & Sabinyo).
